Beowulf Socratic Seminar question one shows how values in Beowulf's culture reflect the values that today's society has. This rather interesting, since that society is separated from ours by hundreds of years, yet many values remain the same. This must say something of human nature. For example, I think that the quote, "Behavior that's admired is the path to power among people everywhere" has a lot of substance. It really seems to be relevant today. When people do things that are admired, whether they are good or bad, it gives them power and influence. This concept easily relates to celebrities. When they do something that the general public perceives as "cool" or admirable, it generally adds to their level of fame. The quote, "it is always better to avenge dear ones than to indulge in morning," is very similar to the idea of getting even instead of angry. It is the principle of using negative energy to do something constructive, depending on what one considers constructive, since it is essentially revenge.
